Description
Treatex UV Protection Oil is a clear protective finish for exterior joinery which offers excellent protection against the bleaching effects of the sun’s Ultra Violet rays. Absorbing deep into the timber the UV oil provides great protection against extreme climate conditions. Manufactured from natural ingredients such as sunflower and soybean oils and waxes. UV oil is designed for horizontal surfaces such as windows, doors, and cladding. Not to be used on decking. UV oil can be used over other Treatex exterior oils and the classic colour collection.
Suitable for most timber species. Timbers with high tannin content such as air dried oak may still leach some tannin in the early stages.
Preparation
Treatex UV Protection Oil works best on unfinished timbers. Previous finishes which stop UV Oil penetrating into the timbers (e.g. paints and other ‘closed’ finishes) must be fully removed prior to application. Previous porous finishes should be lightly sanded to 120 grit before over coating. When over coating a previously finished surface, a trial application is essential. Flaking or peeling finishes must be fully removed prior to application. Ensure the timber is dry and free from possible contaminates e.g. algae, grease, dirt, dust etc.
We advise that when using Treatex UV Oil, sufficient product is purchased to complete the whole project and when more than one tin is required it is advisable to mix them together before use. The timber must have a moisture content below 18% and the ambient temperature must be between 8oc and 25oc during application and drying. We strongly recommend a trial application prior to starting the project.
Application
Stir tins thoroughly, before and during use. Use a brush or roller to evenly apply Treatex UV Oil in the same direction as the wood grain. Pay particular attention to the end grain, where you should apply liberally. If possible, coat all sides of the timber at least once. After approximately 12 hours the first coat can be over coated. Apply with a brush or roller a second coat of Treatex UV Oil, and leave for approximately 12-24 hours to fully dry.
It is highly recommended to complete a small test area before commencing your job.
