Description
Blackfriar Patent Knotting – knotty and resinous areas are no longer a problem with Blackfriar Patent Knotting. It’s made from pure shellac and methylated spirit and ideal for new wood or wood stripped or burnt-off prior to priming.
Preparation
- Ensure surface is clean, dry and dust free.
- Remove any excess resin from knots by scraping then cleaning with methylated spirit.
Application
- Ensure the product is thoroughly shaken prior to use.
- Apply evenly using a soft brush.
- Overlap the knot or resinous area by at least 12mm.
- Apply a minimum of 2 coats, allowing to fully dry between coats.
- Thinning – Not required.
- Drying Time: Touch dry in 15-30 minutes. Recoat after 1 hour. Drying times are based on an ambient temperature of 20°C and 50% relative humidity. Lower temperatures or higher humidity will prolong the drying and overcoating times.
Limitations
- Not to be used as a finishing coat.
- Not suitable for use under clear coatings.
- If knots exude excess resin we recommend that they are completely removed and made good with sound timber and wood filler or a wood stopper.
Clean Up
- Remove as much product as possible from application equipment before washing with methylated spirit.
- Do not empty into drains or water courses. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings.
Storage
- Store in a dry, safe place.
- Do not store in environments where extreme temperatures may occur.
- Keep within 5-30°C.
- Do not store in direct sunlight.

- Danger: contains Methanol.
- Highly flammable liquid and vapour.
- May cause damage to organs.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Read label before use.
- If medical advice is needed, have product container or label at hand.
- Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames and hot surfaces. – No smoking.
- Do not breathe vapour.
- In case of fire: Use water spray, dry chemical powder or carbon dioxide to extinguish.
- Store in a well-ventilated place. Keep cool. Store locked up.
- Dispose of contents and container in accordance with all local, regional, national and international regulations.
