Description
Blackfriar Polyurethane Floor Varnish is ideal for wooden floors, a hard wearing durable solvent based system that will leave your with an attractive finish. Only suitable for interior use, ideal for living rooms, bedrooms and kitchens.
Please bear in mind to give the Satin & Matt finishes a vigorous stir before use as the matting agents settle out in the can.
Preparation
- Ensure surface to be varnished is clean, dry, sound and free from wax, oil or any other contamination.
- If wax has been used clean the surface thoroughly with white spirit prior to sanding.
- Bare wood should be sanded to a smooth surface, always working with the grain.
- Sound, previously varnished surfaces should be lightly sanded to provide a key.
- Existing varnished surfaces which are unsound or in poor condition can be stripped back to bare timber with Blackfriar Professional Paint and Varnish Remover.
Application
- Stir Blackfriar Polyurethane Floor Varnish thoroughly with a broad stirrer prior to use.
- The product may be applied by brush or roller.
- If applying by brush, apply evenly using light strokes following the grain of the wood.
- If rollering, use a short nap mohair roller.
- For best results 3 coats are recommended on new wood and 2 coats on previously varnished surfaces.
- Prior to application of the final coat or if the overcoating time is exceeded lightly abrade with fine glass paper working with the grain and remove dust.
- Thinning – Not required.
- Coverage Rate: Up to 14 square metres per litre per coat.
- Drying Time: Touch dry in 4 – 6 hours. Recoat after 16 hours and within 3 days. Drying times are based on an
ambient temperature of 20°C and 50% relative humidity. Lower temperatures or higher humidity will prolong the drying and overcoating times.
Limitations
- Blackfriar Polyurethane Floor Varnish is not suitable for use on plastic type materials, eg. imitation wood.
- Before applying varnish we recommend a trial application on an inconspicuous area of the floor.
- Once dried check adhesion with sticky tape. This is essential particularly when applying to cork tiles, prefinished tiles or laminate flooring.
Clean Up
- Remove as much product as possible from application equipment before washing with white spirit.
- Do not empty into drains or water courses. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings.
