Description
Blackfriar Quick Drying Floor Varnish has been specially formulated to protect floors with an attractive, long-lasting scratch-resistant finish. The varnish dries quickly so you could transform your floors in just one day. Easy to clean and perfect for all wooden flooring.
Preparation
- Ensure surface to be varnished is clean, dry, sound and free from wax, oil or any other contamination.
- If wax has been used clean the surface thoroughly with white spirit prior to sanding.
- Bare wood should be sanded to a smooth surface, always working with the grain.
- Sound, previously varnished surfaces should be lightly sanded to provide a key.
- Existing varnished surfaces which are unsound or in poor condition can be stripped back to bare timber with Blackfriar Professional Paint and Varnish Remover.
Application
- Stir Blackfriar Quick Drying Floor Varnish thoroughly prior to use.
- The product may be applied by brush or roller.
- If applying by brush, apply evenly using light strokes following the grain of the wood.
- If rollering, use a short nap mohair roller.
- For best results 3 coats are recommended on new wood and 2 coats on previously varnished surfaces.
- Prior to application of the final coat or if the overcoating time is exceeded lightly abrade with fine glass paper working with the grain and remove dust.
- The varnish will appear cloudy when wet but will quickly dry to a clear finish.
- When applying to new or bare wood, thin the first coat with up to 10% water.
Limitations
- Not suitable for use on plastic type materials, eg. imitation wood.
- If applying Blackfriar Quick Drying Floor Varnish to cork tiles, prefinished tiles or laminate flooring we recommend a trial application on an inconspicuous area of the floor.
- Once dried check adhesion by scratching firmly with a finger nail.
- New concrete should be allowed to dry for at least 6 months before varnishing.
- Do not use under cold (less than 10oC), damp or humid conditions.
- Do not wash the varnished surface for at least 3 days after application.
- If water is spilled on it during this period gently wipe off with a soft dry cloth.
