Description

Blackfriar Teak Oil protects against weathering and greying along with nourishing and feeding the wood preventing splitting.

Suitable for exterior hard wood furniture such as tables and chairs, panelling, doors and much more.

Teak oil needs to be maintained regularly to keep wood nourished and protected – we would suggest inspection in spring and autumn, or when items look dry.

We Do Not Recommend the use of Blackfriar Teak Oil near surfaces that make contact with food stuffs, such as chopping boards or wooden worktops.

Preparation

  • Ensure surface to be oiled is smooth, clean, dry and free of contamination.
  • For surfaces previously treated with oils or waxes clean back the surface to bare timber with fine wire wool and white spirit, working along the grain.
  • Previously painted or varnished surfaces should be stripped back to bare using Blackfriar Professional Paint and Varnish Remover.
  • Any French polish on surfaces must also be completely removed.

Application

  • Ensure the product is thoroughly shaken prior to use.
  • Apply oil liberally by brush or rag.
  • Leave for a few minutes for the oil to absorb into the wood then wipe off any surplus.
  • Allow the oil to dry for 24 hours before using or recoating.
  • When applying to new wood thin the first coat with 5% white spirit.
  • Thinning – Maximum 10% white spirit.
  • Coverage – Up to 14 square metres per litre per coat. Dependant on porosity of wood.
  • Drying Time – Touch dry in 6 – 8 hours. Recoat after 24 hours and within 3 days. Drying times are based on an ambient temperature of 20°C and 50% relative humidity. Lower temperatures or higher humidity will prolong the drying and overcoating times.

Limitations

  • Do not apply Blackfriar Teak Oil in wet conditions or if the temperature is below 5°C.
  • For best results apply a minimum of three coats leaving a minimum of 24 hours between coats.
  • Apply regularly to maintain protection of wood (at least annually).
