Description
Coo-Var MDF Primer is a quick drying, white, water based primer for medium density fibreboards (MDF) & other wood composite surfaces. It can be used to prime MDF furniture, desks, doors, radiator covers, kitchen cupboards and much more.
What is MDF primer?
MDF primer is a type of primer specifically formulated to seal and prepare MDF (Medium-Density Fibreboard) surfaces for painting. It helps to create a smooth, even base that improves paint adhesion and finish.
Why do I need to use a primer on MDF?
MDF is very porous and can absorb paint unevenly, leading to a blotchy finish. Using a primer seals the surface, preventing paint absorption and providing a smooth, uniform base for topcoats.
How do I apply MDF primer?
- Surface preparation: Sand the MDF surface lightly to remove any rough spots and dust it off thoroughly.
- Application: Apply the primer with a brush. Make sure to cover all edges and surfaces evenly.
- Drying: Allow the primer to dry completely, following the manufacturer’s recommended drying time.
- Sanding: Lightly sand the primed surface with fine-grit sandpaper to remove any raised fibres and achieve a smooth finish.
- Cleaning: Remove all sanding dust before applying the topcoat.
How many coats of MDF primer should I use?
Typically, one to two coats of MDF primer are sufficient. The first coat seals the surface, and the second coat ensures complete coverage and smoothness.
Can I use any primer on MDF?
It’s best to use a primer specifically designed for MDF. Standard primers may not effectively seal the porous surface or may not adhere as well, leading to a less durable finish.
