Description

Osmo Top Oil is a range of translucent wood oils for kitchen worktops and general interior joinery. Suitable for interior use on any wooden surface, designed specifically for worktops based on natural plant oils and waxes, microporous finish allowing moisture to evaporate through the finish, it will not crack, peel or blister. The range of colours and clear finishes will enhance and protect the wood water and dirt and is food safe to Euro 1186 part 5-14.

Osmo Top Oil is safe for humans, animals and plants (resistant to saliva and perspiration acc. German DIN 53160, suitable for children‘s toys acc. EN 71.3). It is resistant to sweat and saliva, as well as a variety of drinks including tea, coffee, wine, cola and milk.

Preparation

  • Ensure the wood surface is sound, clean, dry and frost-free (moisture content max. 18%).
  • Osmo Top Oil is ready to use. Do not thin.
  • Stir well before use.
  • Clean old microporous stains thoroughly.
  • Old paints and lacquers must be completely removed.
  • As a general rule, wear a dust mask during sanding works.
  • Fill small cracks, larger joints or holes in wood.
  • Sand wood surfaces carefully. Begin with coarse sandpaper – final sanding work for furniture and worktops P150-240 (depending on wood species – for worktops max. P150).
  • Before oiling the surface, remove sanding dust with a broom or vacuum cleaner.
  • The finished surface is influenced by several factors, including the condition of the wood. Therefore, we strongly a trial application on a small test area is always required before commencing your job, especially for unfamiliar surfaces.

Application

  • Apply the first coat thinly along the wood grain with a brush or roller.
  • Allow to dry for approx. 8-10 hours. Ventilate well while drying.
  • Apply the second coat with a lint-free cloth. Avoid covering during drying and curing. After 2-3 weeks, the surface is fully cured.
  • For renovations, one coat applied to the clean and dry surface with a lint-free cloth is usually sufficient.
