Owatrol Deks Olje D2 – High Gloss Finish

Description

Owatrol Deks Olje D2 is a long-lasting, varnish-like flexible finish that enhances the natural beauty of both interior and exterior wood. It forms a highly flexible film which moves with the wood to prevent peeling and flaking. Deks Olje D2 is simple to apply and maintain – you don’t need to sand between coats and you can repair and maintain the finish without stripping. Used in conjunction with Owatrol Deks Olje D1, the finish resists water and so will not peel, flake or blister. On boats Owatrol Deks Olje D2 is suitable for all applications above the waterline, however the high gloss finish makes it very slippery to walk on so Owatrol warn against applying it to walkways.

Ideal Uses

• Giving an elegant and sophisticated look to wood panelling
• Finishing accents on your boat like handrails, wheel housings and trims
• Perfecting window and door frames
• Varnishing vertical or horizontal surfaces
• Decorating interior and exterior wooden furniture

Preparation

• Treat all new wood first with Deks Olje D1.
• For weathered wood that has been previously treated with Deks Olje D1 – ensure that the surface to be treated is sound, dry, clean and free from any possible contaminants such as dirt and grease. Then clean and restore any Deks Olje D1 that has lightened to a grey finish, with Owatrol Net-Trol, before applying Deks Olje D2.
• For wood already treated with Deks Olje D2 – maintain by washing frequently with fresh water to remove salt and dirt (especially in marine applications).

Application

• Do not thin Deks Olje D2.
• Apply 6 coats, allowing a minimum of 12 hours between coats. Apply all coats within 1 month. The more coats you apply the more high gloss the finish will be.
• Sanding between coats is not required but for an extra high gloss finish, sand between the last 2 coats with 600 grit paper.
• If using in the marine environment, allow 3 days for Deks Olje D2 to set-up and dry before putting the boat in service.
• Apply between 8˚C and 35˚C.
• Do not apply in direct sunlight or on to hot surfaces.

Caution

• Deks Olje D2 should only be applied to surfaces treated with Deks Olje D1 or previously finished with Deks Olje D2.
• Do not apply Deks Olje D2 in wet weather or late in the day when dew or fog may be expected. This may dull a newly set film causing it to blush – exposure to sunlight usually removes the discoloration.
• Deks Olje D2 is very slippery, especially when wet, so it is not suitable for decks and other areas where it will be walked on.
