Description
Sadolin Woodfiller has excellent adhesion and is ideal for small repairs and minor surface defects it is a single pack filler. Sadolin woodfiller is suitable for use inside & outside and is quick drying and easily sanded. It is also easily overcoated with stains & opaque finishes.
Preparation
General
- Timber surfaces must be suitably prepared, clean, sound and dry.
- The moisture content should not exceed 18% prior to filling.
- All existing paint, woodstain or varnish must be totally removed from the area to be filled.
- All timber exhibiting signs of decay must be removed and cut back 25mm into sound material.
- When filling large areas consideration should be given to splicing in new timber sections.
- After cutting back, treat the area to be repaired (and any new timber) with Sadolin Quick Drying Wood Preserver or Sadolin Wood Preserver and allowed to dry fully prior to repairing with Sadolin Woodfiller.
- Timber treated with Sadolin Quick Drying Wood Preserver can be repaired after 24 hours.
- When using Sadolin Wood Preserver, allow 72 hours drying time.
- Failure to provide a suitable substrate may result in poor adhesion and performance of the repair.
- When used in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations, and the repaired area is sanded flush, perfect results are achievable.
Application
Conditions
- Do not apply if there is a risk of rain, or when air / substrate temperatures are below 8°C or the relative humidity is above 80% during application or drying periods.
- Protect from frost and rain until dry.
- Failure to meet these requirements may adversely affect the curing, visual quality and durability of the filler.
Initial Procedure
- Sadolin Woodfiller is supplied ready for use.
- After storage a small amount of liquid may form on the surface of he material, this can easily be remixed into the material by stirring and does not affect performance.
Applying the Product
- Always choose a colour of filler that is similar to the colour of the substrate (i.e. either that of the timber or of the stained timber that is to be filled). Alternatively choose Sadolin Stainable Woodfiller and use with your chosen woodstain or dye.
- The filler remains workable for up to 2 minutes at a temperature of 20°C.
- The material should be applied with a plastic spatula, filling knives or similar implement and left slightly ‘proud’ of the surface to allow for subsequent machining or sanding.
- Apply the filler carefully to ensure all air is displaced and good contact is made between the filler and the timber. Do not smear the filler around the area to be filled as this will affect the absorbency of the timber and may result in a poor visual appearance when subsequently stained or varnished.
- Consider using masking tape to protect surrounding areas if practical – remove whilst product is still workable.
- Do not apply to holes greater than 5mm. For larger holes we recommend Sadolin Stainable Woodfiller.
- The filler can be sanded after approximately 30 minutes and coated after 2 hours. Carefully sand the filler flush to the timber surface using a medium grade abrasive paper.
- Remove all dust.
