Description
Teknos Helo Aqua Clear Varnish is a hard wearing varnish suitable both interior and exterior surfaces. Ideal for application to interior wooden staircases, parquet and wooden flooring as well as furniture, doors and windows. The water based system makes for quick drying, with virtually no odour. The Teknos Helo Aqua Clear Varnish estimated drying time is 1 to 2 hours. It is advised for the product to achieve its optimum durability it will take up to 2 weeks for a full cure which is standard to any paint system.

Preparation
Clean the surface to be painted and make sure it is free from any possible contaminants such as dust and dirt. Gently sand the surface and remove any dust. Smooth out any irregularities in the surface.
Make sure the temperature of the air and surface is at least 10°C, and that the relative air humidity is below 80%. Drying times will vary according to conditions.
Application
- Stir the paint thoroughly before use, as well as between applications.
- Make sure you do not let air into the product.
- Use on a test area first if possible.
For untreated parquets and wooden plank floors:
Prime with 15% diluted HELO AQUA 80 using brush, trowel or roller. Finish with 2-3 coats of 10% diluted HELO AQUA 40 using brush or trowel. Spread the varnish in the direction of the pattern and the grain of the wood.
For previously varnished floors:
Teknos recommend sanding the surfaces to bare wood. Then follow the above instructions for untreated parquet and wooden plank floors. If the old varnished coat is in good condition HELO AQUA 40 varnish can be applied according to the instructions for finishing to a surface that has been carefully sanded (sanding paper no.150 or finer). Make sure that you test the varnish first on a small area to ensure proper adhesion.
For stairs and furniture:
Teknos recommend applying via brush for stairs and furniture. Prime with diluted HELO AQUA 80, if needed. Apply first a thin coat of HELO AQUA 40 varnish and let it dry for at least one hour. Sand the surface and remove all sanding dust carefully. Apply a second coat of varnish and let dry for about 3 hours before applying the third coat.
Drying times
The drying times will vary as influenced by different surface attributes, humidity, temperature and ventilation. The following drying times were determined at 23°C and 50% relative humidity:
- Dust free: 1-3 hours.
- Dry to overcoat: 1-3 hours.
- Through dry: 2-3 days.
- Final hardness and durability: 1-2 weeks.
- The drying time may be extended by cold and/or damp conditions.
The surfaces can be taken into use 24 hours after application of the last coat. However, as the varnish reaches its final hardness after 1-2 weeks, hard abrasion should therefore be avoided during the first 2 weeks after the treatment.

- Ensure good ventilation during application and drying. Wear respiratory protection if spraying the product.
- Do not get in eyes, on skin or on clothing.
- IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do, and then continue rinsing.
- IF ON SKIN: Wash with plenty of water. Do not use solvent or thinners or white spirit.
- IF SWALLOWED: Call a POISON CENTRE or doctor if you feel unwell at all.

- Due to varying screen resolutions, colour swatches shades can vary when mixed in to paint. We would recommend the purchase of a Tester Pot if you are unsure, this would give a more accurate reference of the colour, also looking at the shade in the home environment would give additional assurance as colours are influenced by there surroundings ( Metamorism ).
